Liability insurance will cover the damage to the gate done by your car.
Property Damage liability pays for the property damage that other people incur because of your negligence. This type of situation is what liability is for.
It will be considered an at fault accident - because you hit a fixed object. So you may see a rate increase. Your agent may be able to give you an idea of what king of increase you may see. |

Liability insurance pays for any property damage. Yes, they will pay. But hopefully you have enough insurance to cover the damage.
And your insurance rates will increase. So, if the damage is not that much you could offer to pay them. If it is more than you can handle, then put in the claim with your auto insurance company.

Home insurance covers lots of different things. I don't understand all the fine print of my policy, but my home insurance agent is always helpful. Try visting your agent or a homeowners agent in your city. http://www.usinsuranceadvisor.com/Home-Insurance.html They should be able to help you. |

Well, that depends on how much property damage liability coverage you have, and how much damage there is to the gate.
Your policy WILL pay for the property you damaged, but only up to the limit of the policy. If you have $5,000 in coverage, and $10,000 in damage, you'll have to pay the difference, $5,000, yourself. |

i don't think you should have to pay-it was an accident, and if a stranger did it they would not have to pay. it's their gate-if you wanted to be responsible for fixing broken stuff you'd be a homeowner, not a tenant. |
