If you are in the UK the best thing you can do is contact your local Citizen's Advice Bureau. They'll have specially trained people who will help you with everything you need to know about your entitlements. |

You should be entitled to a widow's pension, I feel sure. |

Hi I'm sorry to hear about your loss.
you are entitled to a widows state pension.
I'm not being rood but unless you've all ready got a pension at your age it isn't worth bothering with they aren't worth the paper they are written on unless you've got a job with a massive wage that allows you to put a lot of cash aside i wouldn't bother.
my father in law has a small private pension and he says .he doesn't know why he bothered because all the benefits other pensioners are allowed (the ones without a pension that is) he isn't allowed any thing because he has a small pension and it isn't really enough to get by he only has a very basic lifestyle. but had worked al his life and paid into a pension for most of it.
good luck for the future i wish you well. |

You could call Social Security. You probly can get part of his social security if you were married more than 10 years. But you can not get it until your 62 or 65. If your husband was working you can call his job or union to see if you get any benefits there.
Call Social Security to see what you get. 1-800-772-1213 |

To find out what your benefit entitlement is, why not visit the Citizens Advice Bureau. They have a computer programme which will identify exactly what you should claim for. You will need to give them details of your income, your Council Tax Band, your rent/mortgage etc so take those details with you. As a starter, if you are the only adult in your household, you should tell the Council and ask for a 25% discount on your Council Tax.
You don't say if you have been receiving Nat Ins credits whilst not working or how long you worked before caring for your husband. You could get a Pension Forecast which would show if you need to top up your contributions. There is a website for The Pension Service where you could request the forecast.
A Bereavement payment of £2000 tax free is paid if you are under pensionable age at the time of death - but depends on the Nat Ins contributions made by your husband. The time limit to claim is 12 months. You can get a form from Jobcentre Plus on 0800 055 66 88 or download a form from www.direct.gov.uk |
