I am HIV+ and want to get health insurance. Does anyone know of a company that will give me insurance?

Unfortunately, none of the major companies will cover you.

You will need to visit a local independent agent to see if there are any "guaranteed issue" plans available in your area. I have two in my area, one private company and one sponsored by the state. They both have limited benefits that you would need to be made aware by your agent.

Be very wary if you are tempted by a medical discount plan. I have not found one yet that was worth the price of the ink to print your ID card. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge of the healthcare or health insurance industry and they do not need any license. The plans are not regulated so when you have a problem you have little recourse to get it corrected except the Better Business Bureau and one of the class action lawsuits that are so common against them.

Before signing up for one:
1. ask your doctor if he takes any of these cards and which one he recommends. Don't be suprised if he doesn't accept them because most doctors don't (even if they're on the provider list).
2. ask for a list of providers and call some to find out if they are taking new patients, if they actually do take the card, what their discount is. Also ask what their discount is for paying cash. In my area the average discount for paying cash is around 40%.
3. before sending any money in ask for a copy of the agreement. Look closely at their intended discounts, especially the minimum discount. "Up to 60%" doesn't mean anything. If there is no minimum pass them by.

Zamev gave a good response especially in regards to the health discount cards. So many of those are just a waste. They look for people without health INSURANCE and sell those cards to them thinking the DISCOUNT PLAN is INSURANCE.

In many cases you are still stuck with a very large bill.

Most insurance doesn't cover pre existing health problems, but I know a program that does.

Check it out for yourself.

Any questions, just let me know.

I don't. Except maybe Medicare or Medicaid, if you qualify.
