Arwen | I am a college Student with no health insurance....? |
I am transferring so there is no sense in getting it at my school, and the new school doesn't offer it. My parents just have family health plus and if they send in my income,my whole family wont have insurance. I can't get it through my work place because I won't be working there anymore when I transfer. And finally I cannot get it myself because I make over the 800 dollars a month guideline. Any Ideas? |

As long as you are relatively healthy then since you are so young you should be able to purchase an extremely cheap individual health insurance plan.
Just make sure that you shop around and compare rates from a bunch of different companies. Choose reputable companies like Blue Cross, Aetna, United Healthcare, etc.
You should be able to find a plan for around $75/month and maybe even around $50/month if you can accept a high deductible. Here is some more info about finding cheap student health insurance: |

You should be able to get an individual plan for under $100 a month. Call your auto insurance agent and ask him/her if they sell individual health insurance or can refer you to someone.
You say your new school doesn't offer it. That would be surprising because foreign students MUST buy health coverage from the school so unless the school has no foreign students there is some plan available. You may not have asked the right person. Check with health services at the school. They will know who to tell you to contact. |

Most colleges offer insurance...most say you have to have it.
Well, join the 40 million other Americans who don't have it and pray you stay healthy. Or, use some of your pay to buy an individual plan. |

Have you tried getting insurance quotes? I would just shop around, get quotes from many companies.

It sounds like you’re going to have to find an individual health insurance plan. The good news is that in most states there’s a lot to choose from. And if you’re relatively young and healthy you may be able to find a basic individual health insurance plan that’s surprisingly affordable.
To find out what’s available in your area you’ll want to work with a licensed agent, preferably one who represents multiple insurance companies in your state – so that you can get a real clear picture of what’s out there. You can find a local agent through your phone book.
You could also visit an online insurance agency like the one I work for, eHealthInsurance.com. Through our site, for example, you can get free quotes, compare plans side by side, and apply for coverage online. We also have customer reviews for lots of the plans we sell. And our licensed agents are available by phone at 1-800-977-8860.
Good luck!

Go there and check out what they have to offer. If you are relatively healthy it just might be for you! |

I know you said your new school didn't have a health insurance plan for their students, but you may want to re-confirm that. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be affordable for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. You might also be interested in joining the American College Student Association (ACSA), a national organization for college students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable . |
