Home insurance is actually very flexible. I'm not familiar with all the fine print of my homeowners policy, but my home insurance agent is always helpful. Try calling your agent or a homeowners agent in your town. http://www.easyhomeinsuranceguide.com They should be able to help you.

Nope. You should have renter's insurance (it isn't very expensive and is absolutely worth having). However, if you have a good relationship with the homeowner, s/he might be willing to help you recover some of the value of what was stolen. It never hurts to ask. Be sure to talk to the homeowner about improving security, too. S/he has a duty as a landlord to make sure the property is safe and secure.

If you have renter insurance it will cover for your losses.

The home owners insurance will not cover you but if you have renters insurance then you will be covered.

No. You were to buy your own insurance.

Sorry, you have to have renters insurance. It is not expensive at all, get yourself a policy if you have valuables. Homeowners insurance will only cover renters in case of emergencies requiring medical care from an accident sustained on their property- such as a kid falling on the outside stairs or jumping over the fence and injuring themselves or drowning in pools etc...

The landlord's policy doesn't cover your stuff. You need your own policy, to cover your stuff.

Nope...that's what 'renter's' insurance is for....

Unfortunately, as a renter, you should carry your own insurance called a "renters insurance". These are really cheap, and will cover your personal belongings in case of fire/theft/burglar/vandalism etc.
Unless you are included in your landlords insurance policy as an additional insured, you are pretty much at a loss.
Its good to have a renters insurance not only for the cause of covering your belongings, but also for liability issues. If somebody sues you, or you get into trouble with the landlord or somebody visiting you, you will be insured for your liability. Look into it!
