Contact a local health insurance agent and let them do the shopping for you. Agents and Brokers normally sell with several different carriers and can find you the type of coverage you need and what you can afford. Many agents also have a preferred status with carriers that they put a large book of their business with and in case you have certain health conditions that may preclude you from getting approved, they may be able to get the carrier's underwriters to re-consider your application. There are so many options to choose from such as a Health Savings Account to traditional coverage, HMO's and PPO's--get with an agent that can serve you best and then you will not have to spend your precious time looking. Commission for agents is already built into carrier's rates, so let them work for you. I have been in the health insurance business for 25 years on both the insurance carrier side and the agent side. You just need to find out what is available in your location. Do stay away from MEWA's-these are Multiple Employer Association groups that shop collectively for coverage of small employers such as yourself-very high risk for going bust. Many carriers have a "Find an Agent" locator on their websites if you need to find an agent. Good Luck to you!

Kaiser Permanente is excellent. Blue shield is pretty good too. They have a few plans to choose from.

I found the best place is your local Chamber of Commerce... they have like a group plan you can join.

Where I come from we have a few companies that do the research for you and can end up saving you hundreds of dollars. I guess they're like brokers, but they search out the best deals after quizzing you on YOUR NEEDS! Guess the important thing is to enquire what % commission they're getting. Also, do you have like a consumer choice organisation that checks out the various health funds and rate them on quality? Might be worth checking that out too.
See web-link below. And no, I don't work for them.
