I am in the uk and can anybody tell me where I can get cheap car insurance?
I have just made a claim and lost my 2 year no claim bonus. The insurance company charged me £850 more on top of my original £640 insurance premium when I renewed my policy. Can anyone tell me where I can get cheaper deals?

No doubt the easiest way to get insurance quotes is on the web.
Why would you waste your time on the phone calling around?
the last time i needed quotes on insurance i used one of these comparison sites and it was great.
this is the site i used and it was quick like less than 5 mins.
The last thing I want to do is listen to elevator music while waiting for a salesman.
Anyway I got good quotes and ended up saving money so I was happy.
So shop around and compare quotes which is easy on the net.
Good starting point is at this site.

Good luck.

You need to just look around - I am sure not all companies will increase the premium by that much- it may just be that the company you are with now has expecially high loads for recent claims.

You should also try an insurance broker- preferrably your local broker alternatively we would happily offer you a quote (www.gothicinsurance.com).

A word of warning when you by direct to the insurer on the internet- there are a LOT of INFERIOR insurance policies on the net & they often hide your excess by only stating the 'Voluntary Excess ' and not telling you the 'Compulsory Excess' (the two need to be added together to get the real excess for the policy.

We have had clients return to us after finding 'cheaper' quotes on the internet - who when it came to claim found out their excess was £600,£700,£800 when with us it was just £100.

I am an insurance broker & see it all day long- MANY MANY people who by insurance on the internet do not know exactly what they are buying.

Because of your situation you are best getting a few quotes from several UK providers.

To do this you can shop around or use one of the comparison sites. Personally, I think Go Compare is the best as its got a rating system that makes sure the quote is specific to your situation.

All the best!

Try Liverpool Victoria (LV=), their car insurance rates seem to be beating most other providers at the moment and you may find that they'll offer you the best quote based on your situation.
They have just acquired Britannia Road Rescue as well so you'll be able to get cheap breakdown cover thrown in.

welcome news
A cheap insurance policy is marvellous - until you claim.

I would recommend a local insurance broker (not one of the nationals) who look after you for all your needs and give proper advice - unless you are an expert in insurance - only a fool or an expert buys insurance online.

You state 'when I renewed my policy'. If the policy has been in force for 14 days or less since renewal (or when you received your new documents) then you will be able to cancel it with a small time on risk charge (to cover expenses). If you have gone more than 14 days you will be liable for the insurer's cancellation charge which may be quite substantial!

I assume you are not already through a small broker as they would have done a 'fair market analysis' on your car insurance needs (as we do) - thus saving you time and the inconvenience of asking questions on this website - and made their recommendation.
