If you are like most people and do not kow much about insurance contact an independent agent. They represent many carriiers and shop al of them at once using a computer rating system. Make sure you are insured to what it would replace your house (about $185 sq ft in California) and it has building ordinance and inflation guard. If you don't know what either of these are ask the agent. Any agent worth his salt wil automatically include both. Normally you will get a credit on both the HO and Auto if you place it with the same company. Don't forget the Personal Umbrella that provides an additional $1 Million in liability coverage for about $100 a year on both the HO and Auto!

Do you have car insurance? If yes, then try your car insurance company--they will often give you a discount on homeowner's insurance. Another good site to try for quotes is http://insurance.divinfo.com/

how about State Farm Insurance

try an independent agent. they write for more than 1 company so they can look at a lot of different places to write your policy and still get you good coverage for the best price. don't try to "scimp" on your home insurance or you may end up paying for it in the long run if you have a claim. You want a good reputable company as your home is a BIG investment.

Your best bet is to meet with a local agent. They can review your situation and help you find quality coverage at a good price. Here is a directory of agents: http://www.insuremyhouse.com
