I am renting my home, do I need to change my homeowners insurance?

Yes. The "homeowners" policy is for Owner Occupied dwellings. You need to change to a "dwelling fire" policy, for a tenant occupied house. |

yes. you need to change this from a homeowners policy to a dwelling fire policy. this will insure the home a little differently since you no longer live in the home. the biggest difference would be that it does not come standard with contents coverage. you want to make sure it DOES still have liability coverage. check with your agent, we can actually put these properties on a commercial package policy which affords good coverage and the premium is lower. |

You will need to change your homeowners policy to a landlord policy. The landlord policy will have some coverage for contents, such as a stove and refrigerator. If you don't and something happens, such as the home burns or the tenants sue you, that will be a grounds for the insurance company to not pay. You will also need to contact the county assessors office. The taxes for rental property are different than personal residence property. |

If you know the people, and want to avoid paying taxes on the income you receive. then no. but if you want to play it safe just in case, you need to have insurance for renting, and let your local town hall know that you are not living in your home and you are renting it out. |

YES. ur 'insurance' is for u in that home, only. u need insurance to cover ur rental house. present insurance is now invalid. it burns down u lose. ur tenants need 'renters insurance' also. |
