of course yeah, else you could claim anything really, a ferrari, the helicopter, the jacuzzi on your roof, the labrador in the japanese garden you have in the back, although your living on the 11th floor, so 'n so ...

Your policy stipulates that, in the event of a claim, you will work with the insurance company to provide any necessary proof of loss.

I'm assuming the tv and laptop were stolen. Otherwise the damaged units would suffice. If that is the case, and you don't have the receipts you will need to work with you adjuster to see what other proof they would accept. (You might be able to get duplicate receipts if you know where and when the units were purchased. Contact the store and see if they can help.) If you have pictures showing the inside of your home and the tv was in the picture, that might suffice.

For future reference, take pictures or videos of your home and store them off premises. Pay particular attention to the more expensive items when doing this. Write or record serial numbers, etc for those items that have them and keep copies of your receipts. Claim time becomes much less burdensome when it has been prepared for.

They are trying to make sure a/ it was yours and b/ when it was purchased.
What tends to happen is that people buy laptops second hand and trash 'em to get a new one. Naughty people ruining it for the rest of us.

yes you do. if you pd for it with a credit or debit card, you should be able to get a printout that shows the charge.

well if you still have them items try providing a picture of the items if you no longer have a receipt. if you used a credit card to purchase the items, you can contact the card compnay and they can provide you a statement showing the purchase.

Yes as anyone could say that they had expensive tvs, hifis etc.

They may ask for a receipt only for items above a certian amount, and if you can't prove you bought it, you maye get up to that amount only.

You really should keep all receipts for expensive items, I have all of mine for just such an event

Hello,
You have have to prove you owned it, so that they can insure it, and there needs to be a value.

yeh, if they ask for it you have to show it to them.. just a reciept or maybe a bank statement showing you purchased it will do

Yes of course you do. If you don't have a receipt then produce a credit card statement showing purchase. Failing that send a copy of the guarantee and the original manual. You have to send something to prove ownership.

JUST A THOUGHT if all your reciepts were in a box and you had a fire and the box was destroyed what would the insurance do then all the proofs have been destroyed

I think but am not 100% sure that the laptop would act as a receipt.
