Hey all. This is my problem. I am a full-time student living at home. I am completely dependent and have no source of income. At 22 I was kicked off my mother's insurance. So for a couple of years now, I haven't had any. I am 24 about to turn 25. I graduate this December. My mom makes a very good living considering that she is a single parent. She makes about 80K or more and there are three of us in total.
I really need to go to the doctor for check-ups and testing. I need to see a dentist desperately as well. What is available to me? Should I just wait it out till I get a job sometime next year and get insurance. I still feel like I really need to go. Any advice would really help. I get really worried about myself. So right now I am just trying to take care of myself as much as possible and not keel over in the process cause I think...I'm not sure....I think I could be diabetic. Thanks.

well first thing's first.. if you're only 24 you shouldn't worry so much if you have any degenerative health problems.. only ramifications if you do anything routinely that would impair your health i.e. smoking/drinking excessively.. i think you should be alright until next year, with the exception of the dental problems.. you could always go to a college that has a dental hyginiest program and the students will clean your teeth for free (they need them for credits) if you feel that you need fillings well i would be very conscience of what you eat, especially sugar and drink lots of water and brush your teeth twice a day and floss and use listerine.. but if you worry about your health all the time, you will soon find yourself having anxiety problems.. just be loosen up dude.. and don't be so pessimistic |

You are an adult, your financial need will be based on your income, not your mom's. They might addin the value of room and board provided by your mom, but you will still likely qualify for something. You don't you go to your school's health clinic?
Your mom is doing very well, perhaps she can help out for now and you can pay her back when you start working. She's a mom...she wouldn't want you to risk your health. If you have no insurance, tell medical providers that. They will very often LOWER the cost for private pay (which is one the reasons we pay so much for health insurance) and give you a payment plan. If you are in larger city, call a dental college. They will usually do things for free or very low cost. A student will work on you under the close supervision of the professor. Go to a free or nearly free clinic. They'll serve you if you have no insurance and you don't make enough money.
They wont go by your moms income. You're grown. |

You go to the doctor, and pay cash. You can try to pre-negotiate the price.
Dental doesn't pay out more than it takes in. |

Go to the emergency room and fill out a form for charity-if you do not have insurance this method will pay for most or all of it. ask for the charity form at the front desk |

If you don't make over 24K a year and you have worked in this country, you may want to consider medi-caid help, otherwise you better look at getting some individual health insurance, for someone that is young and relatively healthy you shouldn't have anything to worry about. |
