Not So Run Of The Mill
I don't mean to sound stupid hear, but I need some advice on health insurance?
I'm looking to buy some health insurance, but I don't know what everything is. So a few questions, plain english answers please. 1. I know that a deductible is the portion an insurance company won't pay. So my question is this, Do I have to pay the entire deductible out of pocket before my insurance will cover anything? 2. Coinsurance is where I pay a portion and they pay a portion, but what if it says the percent is zero, does that mean I pay nothing besides my deductible?

Yep. Deductible is what you must pay yourself, before the insurance company pays anything. Coinsurance is when you and the insurer pay a % of the cost (you pay 30%, they pay 70% for example).

If it does say 0% coinsurance, that means that you pay nothing after the deductible (besides copays etc)

ok these people are all correct when it comes to deductibles and copays. The real question you need answered is what kind of insurance do you need? you need to look at policies coverages and have a competent insurance agent to assist you. Cause there are soooo many different types of policies. Do you have a doctor that you normally go to? If so you need to be aware that he may not be in your mandatory physician. What type of physica; alments do you have and what policies best cover them.

1. Yes, that's what is going to happen when they submit the charges to your insurance company. Most doctors offices, etc. ask for it when you try to get a medical professional to perform a service for you.
2. That's been my experience. But watch for ceilings and non- coverage on items you are billed, as a simple trip to a doctor's office can often have the professional services performed not covered by your particular insurance plan. Say they did lab work and tested your sample for a non covered category. No one would probably know this until the bill went through the insurance process, so you will be responsible for what the insurance will not pay.
Wish it was easier...sometimes you get lucky and your physician's staff are on their game. But they just want to get you well, and don't consider these other matters in the process. Especially if your working.

1. Yes. You pay the deductible, before the insurance kicks in, with most plans. 2. Yes, if the coinsurance is zero, you don't pay anything else.

But that's different from a "copay".

3 Make sure you're working with a broker so you don't buy the wrong plan. It's free to use one, but it can be costly not to.
