I don't think he necessarily has to carry you, but if you are uninsured, wouldn't you want it? If something major happens to you, then it's too late to add you after the fact. I work in an Emergency Room, and we get people all the time that don't have insurance, but their spouse does. It just doesn't make sense. Unless the cost is completely ridiculous, have him add you. It'll be worth it in the long run if something should happen that requires surgery or hospitalization. |

He can even go under your companies health plan.
If you want health insurance, but are in a tight budget, I would like to recomment a high deductible plan. These are very inexpensive, and in case of a catastrope it will keep you from losing your house and declaring bankruptcy.
Expect a deductible of 3,400 /pp or 9,000 / family. Expect to pay less than 100 dollars / month.
Some company plans run $900/month for the low deductible plans. Put the money you are savings in a special savings account to pay for your deductible.

He isn't required by law or anything but it can be very dangerous not to have health insurance. For your own peace of mind I'd reccomend seeing if you can get put on your husband's policy or even shop around independantly for insurane of your own. |
