I fell at work today and they let me off early. Do I get reimbursed?
I'm 15 and I work at Dairy Queen. I slipped and fell on a wet floor today while holding a cup of open soda. I fell right on my tailbone and soda fell all over me and my hair was totally drenched. The manager told me to go ahead and take the rest of the day off, four hours before I was scheduled to leave. Do I get reimbursed for those hours?

MSAD
Most likely not.

It sounds like you were allowed to go home early because you were covered in soda and they were slow enough that they did not need you there.

The alternaive would have been to spend the rest of the day working with your hair covered in sticky soda. Yuck. I know I would much rather have gotten home and gotten a shower.

If you need the hours - see if your manager is willing to give you some overtime on another day to make it up.

Good to know you were not hurt.

if you wre hurt at work they would be wise to pay you.

Any fall at work should be followed up by a worker's compensation report, filed by your employer. Unless they don't have the proper insurance (which is not legal) they will have to report your fall and they will be required to send you to a doctor at their expense. But don't wait for them. See your own doctor without waiting, because if the fall caused you injury that isn't apparent yet, you will have record of the diagnosis and treatment, and you'll need this when filing a worker's comp claim. Otherwise, don't expect a dime to come to you. Paying you for the rest of the day off is solely at the discretion of the employer and depends on your labor laws.

You end up screwed if the injury leads to other problems and you don't follow the proper work related injury steps.

Charlie
Did they send you to a Workman's comp doctor. they should nave...for your benefit and to protect themselves. if you have an injury, you need to receive proper care and they are required to provide it...and to protect themselves from lawsuit. if they have sick time benefits for employees, you should get paid for your missed time. if you are a part time employee without benefits, then , no.

DEE CON JESTED
no of course not but you can make a claim for workers comp, and do it asap, if you want and feel it necessary

Sugar
You might...If he is a good manager

seems to me he or she would gladly pay you for the rest of the day to avoid a possible lawsuit.don't sign anything that state's that you are ok without seeing a doctor.

mbrcatz
No. Sorry.

I would say yes, but I don't have any knowledge of the labor laws in your state.

I would recommend calling your state's labor department and asking them. That's what they are there for.

Good luck!

I doubt it. But if you are hurt and want money out of this situation, you need to go to the emergency room, hire a lawyer and sue ! !
