Reliable? You mean, who's responsible for his debt? If he doesn't have a spouse, and doesn't have any assets (bank accounts, cars, etc), the creditors have to eat it. Just make a bunch of copies of his death certificate, and mail it out to them.
Now, some slimey bill collectors might try telling you that YOU are responsible now, but they're lying. So tell them to bring you to court. Debt is not inheritable.
If you have a spouse, AND you're in a community property state, then the spouse MIGHT be held responsible for some of the debt. |

If he died without an estate there is nothing for the creditor to make a claim against and they will have to absorb the loss. Send them a copy of the Death Certificate and explaikn that there is no estate. |

No one is liable for the debt. The courts, creditors cannot legally come after any relatives for these debts.

I don't know where people are getting the idea that your debts are no longer valid at death. Your brother borrowed money and it still needs to be repaid. The very reason people have life insurance is to not burden their family with their debts.
The debts are his inheritance and they are distributed the same way an estate would be. |
