comet girl...DUCK! | I have a health insurance question.? |
My husband is self-employed and makes a good living, but we can't afford individual health insurance. He has no employees so we are not eligible for group insurance. Our income is too high for assistance. Individual insurance would cost us $1500 a month. I am unable to work full-time at this time and I don't know of any part-time jobs that offer benefits. We belong to a medical discount program but that would definitely not protect us in the case of a catastophic illness. Any suggestions? |

Have you looked into Medi-share? Might be medishare.org - a Christian based medical bill sharing group. You MUST be leading a Christian lifestyle in order to join - which means no smoking, recreational drug use, or intimate relationships outside marriage. But it's a great plan.
Also, both Walmart and UPS offer health insurance for part time employees. |

Does your husband own a business where he is the sole employee? If so, then he might qualify for group health plan rates as a âgroup of one,â depending on where you live. Iâve included links below to state insurance departments and to Georgetown Universityâs Health Insurance Consumer Guides; you should be able to find out about groups of one through these sites. You might also want to check out whether industry groups (trade organizations, associations, et al) related to your husbandâs work have health plans you can join.
If you canât find a group health plan, check out MostChoice.com. You can compare a variety of health plans in your area and speak to multiple health insurance agents quickly and without any obligation. Just fill out a secure form, view online health plan information, and local agents should contact you within 48 hours to follow up with you. Tell them your price range and what youâre looking for and wait until one of them delivers the plan that fits your coverage needs and financial parameters the best.
You can find MostChoice here:

Hope this helps,

There are places that sell non employer group insurance. I cant afford health insurance either, but I did look into it once and it was going to run about 250 a month for my wife, who is a health risk, and myself. I forget where I went, but there are literally dozens of places that offer similiar plans. Just put "Affordable Health Insurance", in the Yahoo search engine. |

Shop around a little. You can call yourselves a "small business group" - meaning you're employed by him. (If you have a Federal Tax Id#, it'll be easier - get one if you need to!) My dad's self-employed and he pays $675 a month for both him and my mom. You should be able to at least get major medical (i.e. hospitalization) for under $300 a month. Start with a local insurance agent - especially if there's one you already do business with for car or homeowners' or business insurance. |

Not sure what discount plan you are referring to, but are you familiar with Ameriplan? They're the #1 discount program in the country. Any hospital visit over $2500 will be negotiated down to a based on your ability to pay.
Medical, dental, vision, prescription and chiropractic plus labs and hospital advocacy is $49.95/mo indiv. and $59.95/mo household.
http://www.everyonebenefits.com/40424269/ When you think about it, the $$ you would be shelling out in premiums you could be putting away in a savings account. If something catastrophic, God forbid, came up, the hospital advocacy program would come in and negotiate your bill down to what your income would allow you to afford and you could apply that savings to paying that bill. At least this way you are not throwing your money away and it is in your hands.
Just an idea........... |

Have you checked with all of the companies in your state? Go to www.insurance-forums.net and ask around, I bet you can get the insurance much cheaper. |

First I would suggest that you do some in depth research on the subject of healthcare in America. I would suggest you buy Paul Zane book about health insurance, the short answer to your dilema is "HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNTS" You say your husband is self employed and you cannot afford 1500.00 a month, I can assure you a Health Savings Account will not cost 1500 a month. If you have any networth at all having a Medical Discount plan is worthless. You are risking everything you have worked for, in the event of a medical crisis for your family. |
