YES insurance is a must. Dog can be very expensive. Go to your vets surgery and ask. Make sure that the insurance you take out is suitable for your dog. Also make sure that the insurance is a rolling insurance, this means that if you dog suffers from one complaint and it is cured and then comes back you insurers will still cover it. Many do not. If you are in the UK there are many companies. I use Tesco`s they have been very good. |

Consumer Reports stated that generally pet insurance is not a good buy. The premiums paid in (plus deductibles and co-pays) are more than the benefits paid out over the expected lifespan of the pet. As the pet ages, maximum payout for a covered procedure may decrease. May not cover hereditary or congenial defects, routine checkups and routine shots (rabies, distemper, etc).
Do your research and cost analysis. One plan costs $600 per year for one pet. Insurance is a bet. You're betting against the insurance company that you'll collect. The insurance company is betting against you that you're not going to collect. If you buy the policy this year and your pet needs a very expensive procedure next year, you win the bet. |
