I have a small company that I work on the weekends. I work mabe 20-30 hours a month. i went to get insurance and it was $1300 a year, the same as if I worked it full time. Why am i paying the same if I worked 24/7? If I drove 100 miles a day to work it would be more than if i drove 5. My auto insurance would be less. |

what kind of insurance are you talking about? health? liability? auto? disability? workers comp??
When policies are issued, there's usually a "minimum premium". No matter how low the exposure, the insurance company will charge XYZ dollars for the policy, to cover their administrative expenses.
Additionally, some lines of business, specifically workers comp and liability, have higher incidences of claims for part time businesses as opposed to full time businesses - that makes the cost of part time business insurance MORE than full time.
Lastly, the only type of policy I know of where hours worked is actually a rating factor, is medical malpractice. All other types are either, you do it, or you don't. Rating basis for liability is usually payroll, square footage, or gross sales. Rating basis for auto is usually type of use, and radius of operations. Rating basis for Workers comp is payroll, and for Health and/or disability is age/medical history. |

If you are looking for health insurance coverage, it is not limited to the hours you work. The premium is calculated by the risk that you, as a person, present to the insurance company that would be covering you. You have just as much of a chance of getting sick as somebody that works 12 hours a day. Why would you think you would have to pay less? |
