Tawny Angel | I have a standard Homeowners Insurance on my house. My crystal bowl was broken when in use. Am I cover? |
Does a standard homeowners policy in the U.S. only cover loss suffered from perils only? Additional Details Wow, a lot of great answers! Well, from the majority of it it would appear that my (HO3 type) policy would not cover the loss of my bowl. Incidentally it is quite an expensive one costing me a little less than $2,000. Would I then be able to claim casualty deduction from my 2008 Tax Return? |

On the standard HO3, contents (the bowl) are covered for named perils only. 'Oops I dropped it' is NOT a named peril. Named perils include fire, theft, vandalism, falling objects, wind, hail, explosion, etc.
Not covered, under a standard, unendorsed HO3. |

Ask your agent, but likely not covered without peril. Besides, even if it was covered, there would be a deductible and a claim against your insurance which MAY cause your rates to go up. Would it really be worth it? |

Depends on how much it is worth. Certain valuable items need to be scheduled (usually if they are worth thousands of dollars). Plus it has to be worth more than your deductible. |

no, you or someone in your house broke it on accident. Only under theft or disaster would it be covered. sorry. |

you have to have a special ridder for stuff like that. Accidents generally are not covered unless specified. In the future if you have valuables get your insurer to add special coverage for each item. For damage or loss or theft these items won't cost you that much per year as extra. |

If it's a standard policy, It is possible, but unlikely. The best way to find out is to call your insurance agent. |

It's very unlikely that it would be covered. If you have something that's very valuable you need to have a scheduled coverage. You pay more for this and usually need appraisals. |

The accidental breakage of a fragile article is excluded under ANY Homeowner's policy. It may be possible to add this coverage to a single item under a Fine Arts Rider, however this coverage is expensive and would not be worth it for a $2,000 item. |

No.
Also, your deductable may be too high and lastly everytime you use your insurance, they will either raise the premium or cancel you. |

It will probably cover it but more than likely your deductible is $1000+ so it's may not be worth the time and expense. Homeowners insurance becomes cost-effective when there is catastrophic damage. |
