Rick | I have health ins. with my "main job." I want to sign up for health ins. with 2nd job and have both. Problem? |
I work as an attorney and have health insurance through my plan, but it does not cover my spouse. I have a 2nd (full time) job. I want to sign up for their insurance for me and my spouse and keep both for me. What are some problems I might have? Thanks. |

To my knowledge, the only way you may run into a problem is if the coverage company is the same on both. Say, both are Blue Cross Blue Shield. Otherwise, there shouldn't be a problem. In fact, a friend of mines has insurance through her job and her husband's so when she goes to get a prescriptions filled, she ends up paying less than $1 per prescription since both insurances are being billed. If you ask me, I think it's great, especially if both of you are on regular medication or need to see a doctor regularly. |

The only time it would be if you contribute to a Health Savings Account. The IRS regulations that govern contributions states that you must be covered by a qualified high deductible health plan, and no other. |

Well, you might want to weigh the cost/benefit. The second plan on you will only cover the gap between your first (primary coverage) and the limits on the second plan. Being double covered is usually a bad financial decision (you pay more in premiums than you receive in benefit). To get coverage for your wife, why not drop the first plan and enroll only in the 2nd plan? |

Even if they are through the same company there won't be any problem at all--the one that you started first will be your primary insurance, so make sure all claims for yourself go through the law firm insurance, and then to the second one. |

The insurance companies may not allow it. You'd have to check. |
