I have no health insurance through work, how do I get it on my own?

The simplest to get insurance on your own is to speak with an independent health insurance broker. A broker works with several health insurers and can help figure out the best plan, company, rates and coverage for you. To find a qualified health insurance broker, log on to a website like http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com and fill out a form requesting a free quote. Your information will be sent to a broker in your area who will contact you. There is no obligation, so give it a try!

go to www.everyonebenefits.com/s.martin
they have plans as low as 11.95 a month. you sign up, and you are able to go where ever the next day.

Depends on where you live, but finding an agent or agency who does business in your area is a good place to start. You can always use the large conglomerates who are all over the web or you may prefer the personal touch of a smaller independent health insurance agency.

If you are looking at as-charged type for hospitalisation cover, NTUC and AIG offer good health shield plans.
Basic cover premium can be paid from Medisave. I would advise you to go for full cover (deductible and coinsurance) by buying a rider (cash payment). If you are relatively young. 20s to 30s and working, premium is affordable ($200-$300 pa)

If you are familiar with the "ins and outs" of individual health insurance you can go on line to quote and compare plans and even apply on line. There are several sites that will allow you to do that. One of those sites is - https://www.ehealthinsurance.com/

But if you are unsure of what you need I would suggest contacting an independent agent that represents more than one company. He/she can help you customize a plan that balances your needs within your budget.

Through a local, independent agent - like the guy that writes your house or car insurance.
