Find out if your local government has a free clinic, many do. As a last resort you can visit the hospital for anything and they will treat you without asking for payment up front. |

1) Check with your local state/municipal social services agency to see what programs or health clinic progras are available. If they have available services. Make an appt. A.S.A.P. As free services don't always last.
2) Visit a local doctor and workout a payment plan. Do not take any unnecessary medical tests/procedures. HOWEVER, please make sure to maximize any advice a a doctor will give you. They may also have knowledge of programs/services for the un-insured. |

You have to be treated regardless.
Most doctors will set up payment arrangements with you.
Hospitals will make arrangements with you,but may not stick to them and turn you over to a collection agency.
Most hospitals do have a Charity fund that helps with the costs, but you need to apply for it and then apply for medicaid or medicare (depending on your age).
If you do not qualify for either, they will give you a letter of disqualification that you attach to the financial aid letter from the hospital.
They may have a similar program set up for the doctors too,but it may have to be applied for separately, but requires the same info.
Check to see if there are any free community clinics, they also charge based on ability to pay or set up payment plans. |

You go to the doctor, and pay cash. Or work out a payment plan. |

If you need to go and don't have any insurance, you'll have to pay for the visit yourself.
Make sure the people at the front desk and the doctor know that you don't have insurance. That way they won't order expensive tests that may safely be skipped, and if they write you a prescription, they'll likely prescribe the generic rather than a brand name.
.
EDIT: For the person who called me an "idiot" and "ignorent" (sic) for suggesting this, let me clarify that I am currently without health insurance and have been for two years. I need to see my doctor every six months for a medical condition. I make an appointment, pay the full amount that he charges (under $100), and he gives me my prescription. When I had insurance, he prescribed a brand name medication. Now that I'm uninsured, he prescribes a generic, which costs me about $20 for a month's supply. So -- although someone chose to criticize my answer, I can tell you that this is exactly how the situation is being handled in my case, and that it works just fine.
My advice remains -- if you need to see a doctor, call and make an appointment! They'll work with you to make your visit as affordable as possible. |

I assume that you are not rich, so the idiot advice that "they won't order expensive tests" is typical of ignorent Americans who don't unde54rstand outr draconian health "system"
1) if you are poor enough, you MAY qualify for Medical Assistance
2) If you are disabled, you MAY qualify for Medical Assistance and/or medicare.
3) In some areas you may find a free clinic, or,, more likely, a "slidong scale" clinic which can see you for as little as $25, with none of the hidden costs most clinics zing you with
4) Next possibility is to go to a Doc-In-A-Box. They are everywhere.
Unlike hospitals, who seem to delight in running up bills you can;t pay, or regular physicians, who are often clueless about cost, mainly wanting to cover their *** in case you have something unlikely, most of these clinics are used to people without insurance, and will usually get you out for a total cost of under $100
BEWARE OF HOSPITALS. although some are helpful, typical hospital billing departments are downright malignant. If they say that they will make arrangements, or not charge you. they probably are lying and figure that the next person can break the news to you.
Last of all, if you have to go to a hospital, you may want to simply lie about your name address and social.,. |
