You are supposed to buy the health coverage before you use it. What you want to do is the equivalent of buying fire insurance for your home after it has burned to the ground. Talk to whoever you owe, and ask them to write off some of it or lower your bill. Explain you have no insurance and they will probably adjust the bill for you. |

there isn't one. When my mother died, we had lots of medical bills. We contacted each one and started a payment plan. After we had paid around 50% or so, we offered them a settlement which they accepted. |

You can't backdate coverage. Coverage starts from the date the application is signed & a money is given to the insurance company. You have to pay this all on your own. I would suggest you get insurance for future medical bills and work out a payment plan with your provider. They will accept $20 per month if that is all you can afford, just be sure you keep up on your payments. |

No insurance company will pay for expenses that you incurred in the past. Your best bet would be to consolidate those debts into one debt consolidation loan with a lower interest rate. You can comparison-shop at the website below |

You can not find insurance to pay AFTER the claim. You may be able to go to the hospital and talk with them about organizations that may be able to help you. |

I can't think of any insurance company that will pay for expenses incurred while you were not covered by their policy. AF LAC does pay for costs not covered under your regular policy - but you would already have to have a policy with them at the time the expenses occurred. Your best option is to contact a reputable debt counselor and work out a payment plan. The only other option would be to declare bankruptcy and you would want to avoid doing that unless absolutely the last resort. |

You can't, because they already exist. Insurance is about *potential* claims, not pre-existing.
For current bills, you can ask friends, family, and church members for help. But really, $5,000 isn't that much, you should be able to get on a payment plan, and find a second job part time or weekends to clear this up pretty quickly. |
