The amount of your claim is certainly high enough that you should not even consider what would happen to your rates. That being said your rates will not go up as a direct result of your making the claim though the rates will likely be higher at your next renewal because homeowner rates trend upward year to year.
Where you need to be concerned is that you take appropriate measures to avoid a similar loss (i.e. central station burglar alarm, dead bolt locks or additional exterior lighting) because if you have a similar loss you won't be worrying about rates because the company might cancel your policy all together.
P.S. Skip the guard dog as that might open up another set of problems |

It depends on what kind of discounts you are getting and also your claims history. If you have been with State Farm for a number of years they may be willing to overlook this claim and not charge you more for it. It also depends on your payment history, if you have kept up with your insurance payments. If you have been a good customer for many years State Farm will help you, not hurt you. There is no such thing as a 3 year claim discount on our Homeowners policy. If you haven't had any claims you are getting a claim free discount which there is a possibility you could lose. It is really up to the actuarial and claims departments. |

Over the years, we've been robbed twice (have since installed an alarm and gotten a dog, no problems after that). We've been with State Farm. Our rates have gone up, but at least we haven't been dropped.
State Farm has the highest rates for us, here in TX. But they have the most comprehensive policy, too. |

Whenever you put a claim in on your homeowners policy it has the potential to raise your rates.
You could possibly just loose your claim free discount, but it would be best to call your agent to ask since no one on yahoo has direct access to your policy.. and consecutive years you have been insured, and your claims history as well.

You will lose a claims free discount for 3 years. That amount is nothing compared to the amount you will be paid for your claim.
State Farm also covers dogs. So, it would be a good idea to get one, even a small dog will alert you to anyone breaking in and possibly scare them away. |
