Sure they can, but there's no ADVANTAGE to you for doing that, that I can think of. And the disadvantage, is that you won't get a multi car discount on the policy - which can save you up to 25% on each car. |

If you are trying to make money from a loss (getting a settlement for an accident from two companies) it won't happen. The two companies will share the loss and you may even have to meet two different deductibles.
Insurance is not there for you to profit from after a loss, it is there to make you whole after a loss.
If you try to collect the full amount from both companies, you will be committing insurance fraud. The insurance companies are VERY likely to figure it out on their own. They report accidents to different bureaus that most insurance companies use. Your VIN, accident date, and amount of loss will be there and if they match up.....
Talk to a local insurance agent to get the right coverage the first time; don't try to get two policies to make one coverage.

Sure you can but why? Ordinarily insurance companies offer multi car discounts, and a second car can be rated as a pleasure use vehicle rather than a commuter vehicle. |

Yes. But is more expensive that way. When you have 2 cars at the same company you get multi-car discount. And, if you have homeowners or renters insurance with the same company you also get multi-line discounts.
Why don't you want all the discounts you can get? |
