Sounds like the typical scam. Take a copy to your local insurance agent and get his opinion. One doesn't inherit an insurance policy; one is the beneficiary and there are no legal fees to be paid for getting proceeds from a life insurance policy |

It's a scam....if there where any legal fees they would be paid by the estate. Ask yourself do I know this person, did i have the kind of relationship that would warrant them leaving me anything/ When you answer those questions you should know if it is real. |

It's a scam.
Beneficiaries don't have to pay a fee, they only have to file a claim - which means send in the death certificate, and fill out a form.
If anyone is asking you for a fee, it's a scam. Period.
You CAN'T "inherit" a life insurance policy. It's not inheritable. The insurance company CAN'T charge you a claim filing fee, by law.
This is probably some outfit promising to "research" to see if you have any life policies out there with you as beneficiary. It's a scam, because THERE IS NO DATABASE. It's private information. |

There are several companies that scour each state's "escheated funds" list and track down folks to whom the money belongs. It may be this is the case. If you're a U.S. citizen, go to your state's Comptroller's web site and see if you can search using either your name or the name of the insured (if not, you may have to call the Comptroller's office). If you find any funds in your name, you can claim them directly without paying a fee. If you find nothing, check the Comptroller's web site of the state where the insured lived, if different from your own. |

Usually this things are scams. They are legit companies that will use your money to 'search' if there is any insurance policy with your name on it (be it as owner. beneficiary, insured, etc).
However this company will charge to search only. They do not guarantee they will find anything (and 99% of the time they don't).
I have seen the same thing with insurance, government bonds, international accounts, you name it.
Don't fall for this. |
