Generally, you have 30 days from the date of marriage to be added. If you miss that, you will have to wait until open enrollment (usually November). You will need to supply a copy of your marriage certificate. He can get all the other info (when you will be covered, etc.) from his employer as this will vary. |

As soon as the paperwork is filled out. Depending on the insurance company, they may need to see your marriage certificate and some other forms of identification.
If you are changing your last name, change your identifications such as social security (social insurance in canada), driver's license, passport, etc. as soon as you can, so that you don't get any annoying paperwork conflicts due to having two different last names.
Otherwise, get your husband to sign you onto his insurance policy! |

Usually your husband can call the insurance company and have you added to the policy in a few minutes.
Or he may have to go to his employer's HR department and fill out forms. |

The answers to get added are here, but the answer that isn't here is to tell you to make sure you are being a smart consumer.
You'll want to shop for indiviudal coverage to make sure getting on your husband's plan is the best way to go. Indiviudal coverage is cheaper than group, so if you're healthy and his company isn't paying for you then you might be better off on your own. This simple fact could save people thousands each year, but some don't even know and just assume that's the best way to go.
