I left 2 shopping bags in the parking garage..?
and when I came back to get them a few minutes later they were taken.
What can I do? Does insurance cover my loss/theft?

1. Check with the garage , they may have picked them up.

2. If the items were bought on credit card, MOST TIMES there is insurance built in , or purchase protection that will cover in these situations.

3. Check with the shop, the items may have been returned to the place of purchase.

4. If the parking garage was at your apartment/ not the shopping plaza your homeowners / renters insurance may cover it,

That's highly unlikely.

First off, your deductible probably exceeds the value of the items.

Secondly, you were negligent in leaving them out where they could easily be taken. Insurance will not normally cover theft due to your personal negligence.

Had you left them in your locked car and your car was broken in to it might be a different story though you'd still have the deductible to deal with.

I think you may have to chalk that one up to one of those lifes lessons.

Insurance will not cover being forgetful.

I hope you had a bunch of feminine products in there for the loosers who took them to enjoy

Well, you can TRY filing a police report and a claim on your homeowners policy, but that's going to be tough, because technically you abandoned the property. I don't think this is technically a theft - maybe the maintenance guys just threw it away - it's REALLY mysterious disappearance, which is NOT covered under the standard homeowners policy.

Plus, you'll have your deductible.

I wouldn't report it. This claim will follow you for a while, I can't imagine it's worth that much more than the deductible - and will make you hard to insure in the future.

First off I will assume you meant you left them in your vehicle in the parking garage, and that your car was broken into. If you meant will your auto insurance cover the loss, it will cover the damage the thieves did to your vehicle along as you have comprehensive coverage or some other sort of coverage that covers damage to your vehicle from perils other than a collision. However your auto insurance will not cover the loss of the two shopping bags or what was in them. This would be covered under you Hoimeowner's/Tenant's/Condo Unit Owner's policy. However unless the value of your purchases were significantly above the deductible then it is not worth placing a claim.
BTW if my first assumption is incorrect and you just left the bags on the floor of the garage and walked away, then you will have to see if 'Mysterious Disappearance' is covered under your Homeowner's/Tenant's/Condo Unit Owner's policy if it is on a Named Perils form, or if it is excluded if you have an All Risk basis. If this peril is covered then, assuming you reported this to the police, the loss may be covered depending on your deductible. However due to the circumstances of the loss I would avoid filing a claim (unless your purchases were of significant value), as you may not be renewed by your insurer. If this happens then it will be very difficult and/or very expensive to find another insurer.

If you have a renters or homeowners policy that covers off theft premises would cover your loss but, you would have a deductible on your policy. Pending the amount of the items in the bag would let you know if it is worth putting in a claim.

you can check lost and found or ask the garage manager to check their tapes of survallance...but finders keepers lossers weepers...

Check with the parking garage to see if they have any cameras. Unless you have some very unusual insurance policy, your not going to have coverage for this. Even if your homeowners insurance covers these items most policies have atleast a $500 deductible. Did you really have $500 worth of items in the two shopping bags?
