It depends. Without exaggeration, there are thousands of versions of United Healthcare policies, so no one can make one blanket yes or no statement about it. Most plans do not cover any kind of weight loss surgery, because they call it "cosmetic". HOWEVER, if you and your doctor are willing to jump thru some hoops for it - meaning, the doctor has to provide sufficient documentation that this surgery is potientally livesaving and proof of it, you should be able to get at least a portion of it covered. (Probably not 100% because no insurance picks THAT up on anything.)

i dont agree that lap banding will not be covered. many insurers are now covering. call the surgeon's office and ask for the procedure (CPT) code for the diagnosis (ICD-9) code for morbid obesity (if this is what they are treating?) and then call the insurer's number on your card. ask them if they cover that procedure code for that diagnosis code. good luck! |

Many insurance carriers say that the lap band is still experimental! You may want to just go for like Rouen - Y. I had it done in 03 and it works great |

It depends on the coverage your company purchased from the insurer. In most cases insurance will not cover obesity surgery, even when a doctor deems it medically necessairy. |
