Your vehicle has to be insured in the state in which you reside. They can't just switch. Every company is different. sorry..... had to do the same thing this week! :) |

Insurance companies are regulated on the state level. A policy in one state may be radically different in another state due to statutory requirements even if it's the same company. If a company does business in two states they MAY have their billing system set up to continue their billing from one state to another, but you'll need a new policy in your new state. |

I moved out of county (yes, that is COUNTY, not Country) and had to change. It just depends on how they are set up within their own company. If you have agents getting commission, that agent can probably only insure in a particular state, therefore that agent can no longer represent you as a policy holder. Also, rates and policy terms/conditions vary state to state. For instance, your old state may not require "no fault" insurance, and the new state may. It's easier to start over than to try to amend and transfer policies. |

Because, each state has their OWN policy forms. You can't "endorse" from NM to AZ, for example. You HAVE to legally cancel the policy, and rewrite it. Hence the new down payment.
Each state has their OWN coverages and their OWN forms, and their OWN requirements. It's just not transferrable. |

I don't know why they can't just switch your policy, but of course different states different laws. I have Geico and have never had any problems with their service. |
