If you can't afford it, how are you going to pay for it?
You have to buy it in the state you live in - is that NY, or PA? Just go to a local agent there tomorrow. |

We were in the same boat. We couldn't afford to have it but couldn't afford to NOT have it. We went with a medical discount company, Ameriplan. Check them out. it's an affordable alternative www.betterbenefits.info |

It sounds like you should probably seek state aid. The first asnwer is right about them being able to drop you for known health problems. |

Ameriplan U.S.A is good if you cant afford major medical.
If you can afford major medical then go for that.
The difference is $59.95 a month for Ameriplan and 3-5 hundred a month for major medical |

State aid would be your first option, then through your work, or else google health insurance. I know Blue Cross Blue Shield has some pretty good prices. |

Then what you need is a free clinic because getting insurance is easy so is losing it. Now if you get insurance with a know problem then you are not covered. Also if you get insurance and they have to spend a lot of money on you then they will drop you and deny the claim. |

Make sure you read ALL of the fine print and ask the right questions before buying an insurance policy- you need it "quick" but many have a "pre-existing " clause, which means if you already have an illness- they will not pay for anything associated with the illness for a given time period (one year, or 18 months typically). Ask about deductibles, covered services, co-pays, co-insurance, network providers, out of pocket maximums, lifetime maximums-
There are so many scam insurances out there, go with a known name- United, Blue Cross, Kaiser and do research before buying anything. If you are healthy- consider not getting it. A doctor's office visit is about 60 bucks- consider the cost of not having it at all.
FOR EXAMPLE_Ameriplan is NOT Insurance, it is a "discount" program where the providers agree to accept lower rates than normal- which they do for all insurance companies. Better to just ask your doctors, tell them you are paying out of pocket and ask if they will accept "usual and customary" managed care rates from you. NO reason to pay Ameriplan 50 bucks a month- which is 600 dollars a year- unless you are "sick" and have major medical expenses, you probobly would not spend 600 dollars a year paying out of pocket. |

Keep researching. Even if you don't work, you can find group insurance plans, such as AARP. Group insurance is *much* better than individual insurance, although it's not perfect. |
