you can go to bcbs.com thats blue cross blue shield..or check out the local phone book for insurance companies in your area that sell the kind of insurance you are looking for and ask them to quote you some prices from the diffent companies they offer..check out more than one company around and see which one offers what you need and for the price range your a looking for. |

You're NOT going to find good, private, dental insurance. I've never seen a plan that pays out more than it takes in. So you're on your own for that.
But there ARE good companies out there that write decent private health policies - IF everyone is healthy. If you have anything seriously wrong, that generates medical bills, THAT condition is going to be excluded from coverage.
You go to your local agent - the guy that writes your house insurance and your car insurance - rather than buy over the internet, for a couple reasons: 1. You know you're not getting scammed 2. you know you're getting TRUE INSURANCE, not one of those ripoff health discount plans 3. he'll know who has the local providers in YOUR AREA, so that your nearest emergency room that's In Network is closer to you than 500 miles.
Keep in mind, it's STILL going to cost you about $800 to $1000 a month for HMO style coverage. Maybe a major medical plan with a health savings account, and a high deductible, might serve you better. But the local agent can "run the numbers" and help you out with this. |

I had my own insurance through blue cross for a few years. It was actually cheaper than the insurance I pay for through my work now. If you're healthy, it's not hard to get approved, and not too expensive. Another option is taking a part-time job at Starbucks - they offer insurance to anyone who works 20+ hours a week. Plus it's a little extra income :) |

You may be eligible for COBRA medical insurance through your husband's employer when your husband leaves his job. If you are, the premiums will be higher than they are now, but they may be much cheaper than private medical insurance.
Your husband's COBRA plan may or may not include dental dinsurance. If not, private dental insurance can be astronomical for the self-employed. One plan I looked into costed $600/yr for a single person and just did not make any sense to buy. What I did was buy a dental discount plan. These plans are very affordable and they offer steep discounts at the dentist's office. Your husband should do more homework! Getting a health insurance plan for a self-employed business is, IMO, a basic need! IIRC, Some states allow two people to qualify for group insurance, and the husband can hire you, allowing you to have group insurance as part of his company. Group insurance is *much* better than personal insurance. |
