Low insurance is either going to have a high deductible - like $3,000 out of pocket before it kicks in, and $100 a month - or have a high premium, like $250 a month.
Tenn Care is welfare insurance.
You can get major medical coverage through your school, but it's ALSO going to have a deductible, and not cover "maintenance" type things. |

There’s a new company offering low cost individual health plans in Texas for young, reasonably healthy people, and is a great health insurance solution for college students who are not covered under their parents’ plan. You buy into a plan at a super low cost, with fixed benefits that will cover the typical activities and preventative care of a healthy person. Then, if something catastrophic happens, you have the option to get additional levels of coverage, even AFTER the event. A healthy male 25-years-old (and under) would pay under $100 a month for basic coverage. If not look on the Internet under Insurance. Using a search engine like Google, Yahoo or Ask Jeeves you can narrow your search to Insurance for College students. |

At your age, assuming you don't have significant health problems, you probably should contact major insurers like Blue Cross-Blue Shield or Kaiser Permanente. There's no such thing as cheap health insurance. If it's inexpensive, it probably has limitations in coverage that you should think about carefully. Possibly, an HMO like Kaiser Permanente could be relatively inexpensive for the coverage you get, but it will limit your choice of physicians.
