Kat H | I need help finding health insurance for my mom in Georgia.? |
My mom is 46 and her job does not supply health insurance. She does not make a lot of money at all and she has a skin disease that needs treatment. Paying $200 a month for health insurance is out of the question. Does anyone know of an affordable plan that would allow her to see a doctor and get the treatment she needs?? Thanks! |

Local health offices have the authority to stretch the rules if they see fit. These offices can direct you to local nonprofit organizations or groups that can give you the care you need at the price you can afford. Contact your county office of public health listed in your telephone book or your state Department of Health.
Medicaid may help. For more information, or to find information on each State's Medicaid program, check out the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) www.cms.hhs.gov.ts. |

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but chances are with a skin disease she won't be able to find an individual plan that will accept her at any price, or if one does they won't cover the disease as a pre-existing condition. She needs to visit a local agent that works with all the major companies to find out her options. The agent can find out which companies would accept her and on what terms. There is no extra charge using an agent.
Medicaid might be her only viable option. |

I was looking at this plan which is a relatively large company. You might want to try them out., |

I highly doubt she'll find something for under $200 at her age. Check with local agents and see what they can offer. Either way, the skin condition is pre-existing and there is only a very slim chance that it would be covered. |

Nope. If she was perfectly healthy, a reasonable health insurance plan with a low ($250) deductible would cost her around $500 a month at her age.
Anyone offering you something for less than that, well, either there's a massive deductible, or it's a "plan" that doesn't pay ANYTHING. It sells you a list.
You can't buy a brand new Cadillac off the lot for $10 cash. Which is what you're trying to do, with health insurance. Which, btw, won't cover something already wrong, like this skin condition.
Send your mom $200 and let her go to a doctor for cash. |
