Take the next six months, and follow through on your promises. Clean your room, do your chores, finish your homework, be where you'll say you will be, and bring your grades up.
That's how you prove you are responsible. |

Proving you are responsible is task that takes some time.
You have to demonstrate, over a period of time, that when you say you will do something - you do it.
If you responsibilities around the house: do you take care of them with being reminded? If yes, you are showing responsibility.
Do you home work from school: if so does your report card reflect that it is done on time? If yes, you are showing responsibility.
When you go out and say you will home at a certain time: Are you? If yes, you are showing responsibility.
I am a parent and a grandparent. These are the kind things I look for.

Proving you are responsible starts with the small stuff, like doing your chores, homework and taking care of your room.

Ask your Mom how you can improve your "credibility" with her. Make a list with her, and follow through on the things she wants you to do. Ask her for a time-frame--if you do your chores and behave the way she wants you to, for ( as an example) 3 months, would she permit you to get this pet? You need to sit down with your mom, write out a new plan, and stick to it. Good luck to you.
P.S.- if you disappointed her in the past, tell her you know you didn't live up to your promises, and ask her help to improve. If she asks you to dust the living room, do it, then ask her to look at what you did, and ask her if it is satisfactory. She'll see you are sincere about wanting to do better. If you can't get to your chores, ask her to help you make a schedule, stick to it, then cross out the chores when you complete them. That way, she'll see you really are making progress! You will feel very good and successful when you do what is expected, and maybe then, Mom will decide that you are responsible enough to take care of a pet, and that you deserve a reward. |
