yes, and please be aware that condo policies are a little different from a regular home policy. you want the policy because you want to cover the inside of your dwelling and its contents. please look over your HOA papers and make sure what their insurance covers. they can range largely. some may cover the light fixtures, sheetrock, and other such things, and some may not. you need to know EXACTLY what they DO cover so you know what YOU need covered. Talk to your agent and take them a copy of the HOA policy so they can advise you on how much and what type of coverage would best protect you. also be sure you know how much the HOA can assess you for things such as a loss to a pool or damage to other things. This is how they pay for such things. they can assess each unit owner a certain amt. This is an important part of YOUR insurance. you can usually get $1000 standard, but may need more. |

Yes you should. Even though the HOA has insurance on the structure, you should have personal insurance on the property inside in case of fire or theft, it will also cover you if someone gets injured in your home. Plus, it will probably be pretty cheap $100-200 a year, well worth it. |

100% yes.
typically the condo has a master policy that will cover everything to your drywall-and your policy is responsible from the paint on in-and only upgrades that werent part of the original structure. an exception would be storm shutters that you added on. although they are on the outside, they are an upgrade and would be paid for due to a covered peril under your policy |

Yes! It's much less expensive than a homeowner's policy, because the structure is covered under your HOA's blanket policy, which you pay for through your dues. A condo policy covers personal liability, personal property, fixtures like cabinets and carpet and such, and sometimes special assessments. MAKE SURE YOU GET special assessment coverage. My complex needed a new roof, but our insurance deductible was $275,000, so each owner was assessed $1,027 to pay for the deductible. My insurance covered it, but many people did not have that rider. 4 units are being foreclosed on right now by the HOA because they haven't paid that assessment. You'll be glad you bought a condo owner's policy if something like that happens. I pay $14 a month for mine. |

I would highly recommend a condo owners policy. It will provide liability coverage ( should your pet bite someone or someone trip and fall in your unit). Plus it will provide coverage for damage to the interior of the unit.
Most likely the condo association has ins on the exterior of the building but not on the interior space ( the part you own).
Insurance is one of those things you buy and hope you never have to use. But if something ever happens- you'll be glad you have it. |

all home owners should have home owners insurance as it not only protects your investment, and personal property kept inside the home but also you as well...if some one fell on your property and hurt themselves you could be sued and risk loosing the home to a court judgement, never mind fire, theft....
I also advise renters to have renters insurance...in case of theft, fire...the settlement from the landlord may not be enough to start over...... |
