I ran my car into a bus and I had no insurance. The cops took my car and licence and told me they would arrest
The cops gave me a ticket and said they would arrest me if the information I gave them was wrong. I couldn't provided them with an insurance slip because I don't have insurance but I didn't exactly come straight out and say that I didn't have insurance. They said if I couldn't show them proof or they found out I lied to them that they would come back and arrest me the Monday. This all happened on Friday. Can they actually arrest me for that? I aslo had a previous insurance fine to pay last year and the deadline was the ending of January and I haven't paid it yet so thats the reason why they took my car and my licence but can they arrest me?

Probably not, but why do you not have insurance? Shouldn't that be the real question here? I am obviously not trying to get the best answer here by berated you, but I had a nice person hit me only to give me faulty insurance information. It took an act of God to help me track her down and I still had to pay for the accident.

Grow up, get insurance and pay all your fines. You will regret all these mistakes later in life if you don't take care of them.

Not if you're not a flight risk. Just confess everything, pay the fine, and learn your lesson.

The probably can arrest you. If they told you they were going to, they probably will.

Sounds to me like you have a slight problem taking care of your responsibilities. Buses(or any large equipment) cost an arm and half a leg to repair. Be prepared to pay on this for a long time to come. I hate to sound harsh, but I deal with people everyday who know what there responsibilities to society are and choose not to uphold them. You, my dear, are part of the reason insurance premiums never come down. Companies pay and pay on claims like these and never collect their money back.

My suggestion..... go get you some liability insurance and get the cops off your back, and work out a monthly payment plan with the bus's insurance company to repay them.

JOAN C
You are a menace to society.
I hope they send you to jail.
What if you had injured somebody - how could you pay the millions in compensation?
How are you going to pay for the damage to the bus?
With your record your insurance will be sky high!

i believe a judge would have to issue a warrant, but providing false information during a criminal investigation is reason enough to get arrested.

Unless you live in a very small community with an exceptionally low crime rate, it's doubtful that the police will arrest, or even charge you, in regard to saying you had insurance, when you actually didn't (or something similar to that scenario). It's more likely to get arrested - again back to the traffic accident scenario - when the police later discover that the driver provided false identification, i.e. a bogus name, date of birth, etc., or provided them with someone else driver's license or form of ID, trying to conceal their own identification.

Only you would know the answer to whether any of this applies to your situation.

There's another thing that may happen though. Your state DMV can suspend your license when the record of the accident and/or citation reaches their office. Then if you are caught driving on a suspended license, you could be actually arrested (taken into custody) for that, because the violation is a step higher than other traffic violations. It's arrestable - usually an 'optional' arrest, which means the officer can cite you again and release you (as a pedestrian) or book you into jail.

First I hope that neither you nor anyone on the bus was injured.

This will be an expensive lesson for you. You buy Insurance to protect you and your wallet when things like this happen. You should not drive without insurance.

Be prepared to pay a lot of money to repair the bus and pay any claims by anyone who was riding on the bus.

When you get all these debts settled, be prepared to pay a lot of insurance coverage.

In the mean time, plan on doing a lot of walking.

What if someone without insurance smashed into your parked car a totaled it? What if you were in the car and broke your leg?

Gambit
"...didn't exactly come straight out and say that I didn't have insurance."

Well what did you EXACTLY tell them. If you told them anything that would lead them to believe you had insurance then you could be arrested for obstruction of justice.
Seeing how this is the second time you have been caught driving without insurance I hope they do throw your butt in jail.

Each state is different in regards to the financial responsibility laws for auto insurance. It would help if you posted your state of residence for accurate answers.
It really seems they should have arrested you when they found you were driving illegally from not paying your prior ticket. Maybe it was just a threat, but we need more info.
Thanks. and good luck.

Yes they can do that. Regardless of what you are told here. Most states now have seizure laws regarding financial responsibility. Your car can be sold at auction to meet your financial responsibility for the accident you were in. You can also be arrested for lying to the police. Most officers are not going to do that because of the paperwork and headache involved with making such an arrest. If you have a history with this officer he or she may have been warning you that an arrest was in your future if you were lying.
