I took out a insurance policy in 1990. The agent wrote down the wrong year of my birth. and now he tells me ?
He tells me that when I die, the money that I should have been paying monthly, will be subtracted from the total amount of my policy. This means the face value of my policy will greatly decrease. That was his error, not mine. What can I do?

It's YOUR error. YOU signed the application, with THAT year on it, or you signed a blank application. Your signature, is YOUR GUARANTEE that the information on the application is accurate.

You're not going to be able to go after the agent for this, AT ALL.

But what I'd do, is ask the agent to go to the carrier, and see what you have to pay them, to "make it right", and NOT have the face value decrease.

Since you reviewed and signed the completed application with the incorrect birth year, the company's response now is fair. If you do not want the face value to be less, then you can always pay the extra premium now and bring it back up to the original amount.

Get a lawyer. Chances are you screwed yoursel by signing the policy with a false birthdate. However, insurance companies are famous for trying to screw people, and there is bound to be some form of action you can take. And what? HE gets to just keep the money? Do some research. Find out how manzy times this has happened on this broker's watch. If there is a pattern, then maybe he had malicious and misleading intent. Talk to a lawyer that specializes in insurance claims. It doesn't seem right that he can just pocket I8 yaes of premiums.

Shop it....dpending on the type of plan maybe it makes sense to swtich to a policy that will be accurate. Just depends on what you have and what not.

You could also get it corrected -- by paying to make it right or reducing the face to the amount.

Sounds shady to me. Sounds like the agent lied back then to get a lower premium and basically screw you to make a sale. He just so happens to still be in the business and now feels bad about it. How else would he have "figured that out."

Richie Rich
More than likely what they would do would be to lower the face amount to what would have been purchased had the age been right from the beginning.

The other option, call up the company directly and let them know. They may just adjust it to the correct premium and move on. May have to pay past premiums, may not. Depends on your company.

He wrote the date down incorrectly on purpose, insurance companies will screw you any way they can. (How else would they make money? Their entire business is to collect money from you then give less in return.)
