I took traffic school, can the insurance company still jack my rates up?
I was in a minor accident in 2006. Technically it was my fault but I blame the other douchebag! Can the insurance company still jack my rates up even though I took traffic school? Additional Details New question: I thought they based it on if you have points on your record? If I took traffic school to prevent putting points in my record....and then they can still gouge my rates -- what is the point of taking traffic school?
If it was an at fault accident - then your rates can be raised.
In many states there are two types of points -- drivers license points and insurance points.
You get in a wreck- the cop gives you a ticket. The ticket has a fine and 2 points on your license. You go to traffic school and get that reduced maybe no points at all. That's great- less points on your license.
However, that does not affect the insurance points that were assigned to you. It is still an at fault accident and that continues to follow you. Usually after 3-5 years, those drop off and the at fault accident is not held against you. But it all depends on the laws of your state and the underwriting guide lines of the insurance company involved.
Any time you have an at fault accident - you face the possibility of a rate increase in your insurance.
Your agent will be able to give you specific informaton regarding how your insurance company determines rates and how the accident affected your rates.

Traffic school will erase the points for any tickets you received but does not erase the points for the accident. Points for tickets in conjuction with an accident are usually not counted anyway.

no difference will come with the insurance company of taking traffic school

Your traffic school certificate expires after so many years. You should take another traffic school to lower your rate. I highly recommend http://www.TicketRelief.com. I just took a class with them ALL ONLINE and it took less than a day.

Of course.

Did you get any sort of "certificate of completion" when you took the traffic school? If you did, send that to the insurance company with a note that includes your policy number. They still can, but giving them the certificate should make them think twice about it.
