Many large chains (wal-Mart, Pearle, Vision Source, etc.) will charge a flat, non-negotiable rate for the contact lense exam, but will price-match with their competitors for the lenses. You could even call 1-800-CONTACTS and request a price list. Most will match against the mail order companies, as well. |

If you have a For Eyes in your area, that is the best bet. Their have very reasonably priced exams (I forget how much, bet definitely less than $100.) Ther contacts and glasses are also inexpensive. There's also America's Best, but they have hidden costs that you don't find out about until you are getting your final bill, and they don't explain much to you unless you ask about care and followup appointments and such. I would not recommend going there. |

well my husband's work provides him with one of those vision cards anyone can get its only like $10/mo and after 3 months you can start using it. He's already used it for glasses, contacts, eye exam, etc. Glasses were free, contacts were like $15 for 3 mo supplu and the exam was i think free or a copay of $20 can't remember. Very worth it.
Just google "vision plans" and look over the benefits. |

Pick up the phone book and start calling eye doctors in your area. Explain that you're a cash customer, and that you can't afford much - right now. You should hint that you'll be a very wealthy customer of theirs for life though, and right now, you're an investment in their future. |

I don't know if you have a clear vision in your area but I don't have eye insurance either and I go there and you get a major discount when you bring in can foods or some sort of donations |

Yep, eye exams are like that.
Try Sam's Club. You don't have to be a member, but it's cheaper than Walmart.
If it makes you feel better, the best vision insurance doesn't pay very much towards contacts, anyway. |
