First of all, you're not too old for that at all. I say if you want to do it, then go for it. Never live life with regrets, it's too short. You will be pleasantly surprised to see how many people your age (and older) are going back to school to fulfill lifelong goals. Good luck in your studies! |

Look into your school's plan for continuing education...there's a good chance that you can get a significantly lower rate, plus you would probably qualify for lifetime learning credits if the school you want offers that. I would advise you to contact your school's financial aid office and set up an appointment to speak with a specialist, they will best know how to help.
You could also check with your local jobs and family services office...if you qualify under certain income constraints, they may fund or help fund your education as well.
Most importantly, follow your dream, money is secondary to personal happiness. |

and what huge bill is that ??? If you go to state or JC's, the cost isn't that much. ( I'm assuming you're talking a Bachelors in Art )
If you can't find grants you either aren't looking in the correct places or don't know what you're doing.
If you've been in the military, theres the GI Bill (presuming you paid some in...if not you can still get some money). Sometimes where you work will foot the bill for school
The state's that have lotteries have funds for school.
The county you live in may have special rates for school, if you stay in that county to go to school.
My husband goes to school here in FL. ($150. a semester + books...he just takes odd courses when he can..) so whats your problem ??? |

Chances are that you might live another 50 yrs, so you're just a youngster, go for it! Money is second to achieving your dream. |

Grants are hard to come by, but as a coninueing educator, you may be able to get your BA from your local community college if they have partnerships with state universities. Your tuition wouldn't be as high as going to a four-year college and yit may be closer. Plus, you can do many courses online... |

Why do you need the B.A.? That should be your first question. If it is just to make you feel better, ask yourself this, could you invest that money and make more towards retirement intead of your ego? If it is to increase your salary, ask yourself the same question.
On the other side, an education is something that will star with you forever. You need to figure out why you need the B.A. and then decide how you're going to get there. |

Huge bill? Grants?
Just pay as you go. At 54, there is absolutely no justification for financing a BA. |

Depending on what your career was and how you spent your life - your current financial situation - you may be in a better position to handle a student loan bill than an 18 year old.
If you want to go back to school - do it.
To save costs - start at the local technical college. You may be able to get your pre-requirements - pre-reqs - (ex: English 101) at the technical college and then transfer into a 4 year college.
If you decided to do that - talk to the 4 year college you ultimately want to go to. Not all Tech classes will transfer. So you want to make sure that you don't take a class at the tech and then have to retake it at the 4 year school.
Also - some of the the larger universities have programs worked out with the tech college in their area so that students can start there and transfer in.
The only thing going and talking to an admissions counselor will cost you is time. So make an appointment and look into it.
Good Luck! |

it is never too late to go back to school.... you'll always make due.... even if you can't find grants.... you'll have a degree that should make it easier to pay back.... but why not try a site like www.fastweb.com ... they give scholarships for all sorts of things... im sure you will find one that fits..... good luck .... and congrats on going back to school.... |

I would say you are too old for this huge bill. But only you can answer that question yourself. |
