Try the American Philatelic Society. They can give you more help and also recommend an insurer. Give them a fairly accurate general description of your collection and they can advise you further.
Many insurance companies will not insure stamp collections.

Personally, I would suggest that you get a Scott's catalog and catalog it yourself. A professional appraiser will charge a certain percentage of the value of the collection, usually a very high percentage.

Is your collection strictly US? Then use the Scott's catalog, or maybe Scott's Specialized.

If you specialize in a particular area, such as India States, I would recommend the Gibbons catalog, and a Michel catalog for Germany, Austria, or Bosnia/Herzegovina.

I specialize in Bos/Herz. According to the Scott catalog, my collection is worth only a few hundred dollars. According to the michel catalog, about $3,500.

email me if you wish. I am not a professional philatelist, but am a fair to middling amateur.

Find a person who is qualified to appraise your collection. A stamp dealer or another collector, or the Yellow pages may be of help. Call an insurance agency and tell them you wish you insure your collection which is worth ____ dollars. Find out what the insurance will cost and either do it, with flood insurance or get a few more quotes. You make sure it is covered by paying your monthly or yearly insurance bills and you get that policy in writing.
When my dad insured his collection, he personally had the value of every stamp. There are many publications with that information. It saved him a great deal of money to have gotten the values himself. The insurance company isn't concerned so much with what it's worth as they are how much you want to insure it for. To you it may be worth much more than the book value of the individual stamps.

You're going to have to pay for a real appraisal. Insurance coverage is going to be rated based on how you protect the collection from hurricane, flood, fire, etc - what kind of alarm system you have, etc.

First find the insurance, from your local agent. Then ask the company what kind of appraisal they want - most likely, they will want the appraisal from a licensed appraisal company.

No find a certified appraiser.

Get the appraisal done by someone certified to do that. Maybe your insurance company or someone you know can recommend someone.

Then you need a personal articles policy that covers almost anything from happening to your stamp collection.

Talk to your agent. They will tell you what you need.
