If you are healthy, there should be many very affordable policies for you. I would recommend you stay away from NASE and MEGA. Check your area for an Insurance BROKER. Brokers work with several insurance companies so they are there for you, not the insurance company. I have sold good policies to young, healthy students for as little as $65.00 per month for basic coverage. Prices can vary a great deal depending on coverages and options.

Contact your state's insurance commissioner to discuss your dilemma. Your state may have an insurance pool in which you may participate; alternatively, you can be provided a list of insurers licensed to conduct business in your state, so you may contact them.

This information may be posted on your insurance commissioner's web site. Here's a link to a page that links to all state commissioner sites: http://www.naic.org/state_web_map.htm

I hope this helps.

p.s. -- NASE coverage is for self employed individuals only; the group policy you receive will NOT comply with your state's insurance laws.

used to have Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield. Paid $225 per mo for a family of 4 (not bad), standard deductibles and it was a PPO. They were pretty good. Think they might have changed their Name to Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, and/or Alliance Blue Cross Blue Shield. See if you can look them up on an internet search and get a quote.

Marry a military man. This may sound like a joke, but I'm not kidding. I grew up an Army brat and now I'm a Navy wife. Anytime I've ever had to go to the hospital or the dentist, everything is covered. The coverage is free and the list of providers usually includes the best practitioners in the area. Of course superficial procedures like plastic surgery aren't covered, but all the necessary stuff is completely covered with no deductible and no co-pay. We receive a significant discount on prescriptions as well. If it's feminine care you're looking for, Planned Parenthood will usually see you for free as long as you're a student. Another option is hospital work. If you can find a part time job at a nearby hospital in admissions or reception, they offer benefits. Of course they deduct the premiums from your paycheck. But at least your covered by a provider whose health care you're familiar with.
