George W. Bush | IS IT LEGAL TO HAVE A HOUSE INSURED BY 2 DIFFERANT iNSURANCE COMPANIES AT THE SAME TIME ? |

George W. Bush, Home insurance is actually very flexible. I don't understand all the details of my home policy, but my home insurance agent is always a phone call away. Try calling your agent or a homeowners agent in your town. http://www.usinsuranceadvisor.com/Home-Insurance.html They should be able to help you. |

When you make an application for insurance, one of the questions would be if there is any other insurance on the property. This would then be "excess insurance". If you lied and said "no", then that would be a fraudulent application and the company would deny a claim. You cannot put two policies in force on the same thing and then expect to collect twice. |

Definately. Some places require the buyer to Insure the House when they Purchase it, yet the Seller also has it insured until the handover day.
It would be highly unlikely as Insurance companies usualy will only pay out on one policy for a building. |

No company would knowingly write duplicate coverage on a house already covered by another company. |

they have to know about each other & you can't collect 2x for the same thing |

sure, but it's dumb.. |

It's stupid. You would pay twice as much in premiums and would receive no additional benefit. The maximum total that you can collect from all insurance companies for any one fire, theft, or other covered event, is the amount of damage caused by that event, no matter how many policies you have. |

Sure, but you will not get paid twice if something happens to it. |

You can put as much ins. on your house as you want. They'll gladly take your money. But why would you need to dual insure your house? |
|

|
Sure it is. But it's twice as expensive, and you don't get twice the payout - each policy will only pay PART of the claim. So there's no ADVANTAGE for you to have two policies. |

sure why not!?!?!? you can have one for the house and one for the stuff in the house. or just BOTH!!!
This is a free country! (i think. HA!) |

Ya, but why would you want to do that? Insurance is expensive. |

Yeah. God bless America. |
