IS there a difference in the way insurance companies pay for damage if the storm is a CAT 2 or 3?
People are saying this looks like a worse rating than a CAT 2. I am wondering if it is in the best interest of insurance companies if the storm is rated as lower than a 3?

mbrcatz
No, the way they pay out, doesn't matter. What matters, is how the claim is counted against you. A "cat" claim, isn't included against you, when a company looks at your total losses. So, if you have two cat claims, and no other claims, you can't be dropped, and you can't get surcharged.

But two non cat claims, and one cat claim, is two claims against you, and you can be dropped.

No.

No. They are treated the same.

Rating
No. the insurance company should only handle the claim differently if it is a named storm (a hurricane) or not.

If you have hurricane insurance, they will handle claims the same for all categories of hurricanes.
