Listen, here is the scoop!
Do not listen to the guy that talks about the money its worth! Those statements are absolutely FALSE!
Identity theft only happens to people that are not smart enough to watch out for their finances, personal security and identity! Do you put a seat belt on after a car accident? No way, you would be dead! So why not worry about your identity before it gets stolen??
First, you CANNOT get a new social security number under these terms till you become a victim of identity theft! Sounds stupid, huh? No matter how moronic you and I know that to be, that my good friend is how it works!
With a little bit of work... and I mean a very little bit of work, you will absolutely nothing to worry abbot AT ALL! (Did the crazy guy on the Internet just say what I think he just said?) Yes! I did...
As far as you 'School ID'. That just confirms certain data about you. Report it lost to whoever issued it to you as a good matter of course.
As for the SS#... You have to have your mom or dad (you can do it yourself, but if you get one of them to do it, it’s free! ;-)
You just need to sign up with an Identity theft prevention company. Do not go the cheap way out. Remember, you get what you pay for!!! A good service will run you under $10 a month. These services will watch your credit report and wide range of other things to make sure NO ONE is stealing your identity. They remove you from all kinds of lists that identity thieves use to help them steal identities. Mainly the make sure you are removed from any pre-approved credit card mailing list... for the rest of your life! This is not so much a worry for you now, but it will be in 2 years... Even still, a good thief can easily get credit for a 10 year old (take it from me sister... My brother used to be one of these low lifes. The best service to sign up with by far has to be Life Lock. With these guys on your side watching out where you can't to preemptively guard your identity with a very wide range of tools, connections and advance computer based systems looking for 'red-flags' on your identity... I have a server that I would rather not name as they do not offer half of the services that Life Lock offers. Not to mention that they are $6 bucks more a month! Ugh! Can't with till contract runs out! Plus, get this... the CEO of Life Lock is on the website holding up his Social Security card for the entire internet to see! Crazy right? That’s how well these guys do their job... Oh, and they offer $1,000,000 (yes... that is one million dollars!) in coverage should they fail at protecting you. Unfortunately it is. It doesn't matter how old you are, people will find a way to use your identity. Be sure to go to your local Social Security office and report it lost and get a new card. Since you're a minor your mom will have to go with you. Try to be more careful in the future |
