If I am a member of AARP, what would its premium be for supplemental insurance to Medicare B?

if you're talking about the medicare D plans i think AARP's plans start at about $25. none of AARP's plans have the $500 deductible but you have to pay more if you don't want to fall in the 'doughnut hole'. if you really need help with this email me and i can walk you through finding a good plan. they vary by state but AARP and Humana both have good plans. don't sign up for medicare advantage whatever you do!!!

If you are talking about Medigap (or Medicare Supplement) Insurance, it will depend on your state, your age and which plan you chose. Medicare Advantage Plans are also available with different coverages and different premiums.

Talk to an insurance agent.

This link is great for obtaining quotes for Medicare supplemental insurance. Its for AARP Healthcare Options. It is insured by United Healthcare and endorsed by AARP.

I checked into AARP plans and found that with 2 on social security, it's too expensive. My mother was put on AARP plan by the government in November and their prescription coverage has a lifetime limit.

I picked Humana for my husband which took effect Jan. 1. Mine will start June 1. They have what is called the gold plan which will help with doctor visits, x-rays, neurological testing, etc., and covers most of the US and overseas. The prescription plan for me is great! There is no charge for their plan!

Check them out by calling 866-836-6162.

Medigap Insurance refers to covering the 'gap' with Medicare B and A. (It does NOT refer to the new Medicare D plan). My 90+ year old mother in law pays about $130 in CT for her insurance. All Medigap plans are graded (A-G). When you compare the AARP, AETNA, BCBS or any other insurance company's plan for Medigap insurance compare plan A to Plan A. They are apples and apples. Price is the only difference.

The state dept of insurance can give you a list of all insurers in your state (it is a very regulated industry).

You didn't ask, but I'll also volunteer that there are MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS that are HMOs and depending on the part of the country they can be very good plans. You no longer process claims thru Medicare, the Advantage plan takes the place of Medicare (but you must still have Medicare). The Gov't pays the Advantage plan a set amount each month for each member. It's up to the HMO to manage the money properly pay out the claims. With the advent of Medicare D, many Advantage claims are putting both A, B and D together to make things simpler.

I used to administer retiree health plans. Peferred Care Gold in Rochester New York is an excellent type plan. Humana had a very good reputation as well. Ask around your area. HMOs are graded and receive report cards.
