Probably not because employer provided life coverage is usually term life as opposed to whole life. Term life is a cheap way to provide a simple life benefit for employees - coverage is provided at an inexpensive price during the time you are an active employee and ends when you leave the company unless you elect to convert the coverage (you would know if you did this).
Think of it as renting versus owning. When you rent an apartment, you provide a roof over your head month to month, but build no equity for yourself. Similarly, group term life provides a death benefit from month to month while premium is paid, but the coverage ends with no cash value accumulated. |

There's extra paperwork, and sometimes a medical exam, plus you'd have to pay the premium every year. |

If it was a group policy, then no. The group policy belongs to your employer and if you leave the company you're no longer associated with it. Some group life policies allow individuals to keep their coverage if they pay for it separately. You'll need to track that info down and don't be surprised if the company is not real interested in helping you or offering you good terms. That's not their bag.
This is why it's important to have your own individual life policies. Call your insurance guy and get this rolling so you don't rely on your employer for your own security. |

The only way you would still have these policies is if you chose the convert them. If you had done so, you would have paid premiums for them since you left that employer. There are more than one option available to you, but if you have not paid premiums & you've not had a recent employment change, the option to convert would no longer be there either. |
