The government will not take care of you. Take a look at all the emergency workers that are dying from cancers and such that worked at 9/11. IF the government won't bail out "national heroes" why would they bail out the "average joes"? If the government just bailed everyone out when they couldn't afford something, there would be no point to private health care insurance and the countries taxed would be tremendously high to cover the costs of bailing out everyone that decided that planning for their future was not important. Don't mean for that to sound harsh or anything, but it's the reality of it.
Regarding taking out a loan, that would be fairly difficult to do without collateral. Most bankers won't go for the "I have a fatal disease so can you lend me some money? There's a chance I might die and I can't get life insurance to cover the loan, but can you help a brotha out?"
I wish there were more options for you, but that's really about it. Either find the cash to cover the medical bills or don't get the treatments. And about knowing someone in Canada? I don't think that would help at all, unless you do it fraudulently. In order to get our free health care you need to be a Canadian Citizen. |

She should talk to the doctors or the medical institution where she received her initial diagnosis for information about treatment options, costs, and where she might apply for assistance in funding. If they are unwilling to work with her regarding payment, they may be able to provide referrals to clinics or treatment centers that take indigent clients if she cannot afford the treament. |

Many applicants with solid claims for public disability benefits are kicked off the list because they have no access to physician and consequently no medical reports to indicate they meet the criteria! Depends on whether you can afford to pay the hospital bills yourself.
But seriously...I'm not familiar with medicine in South Dakota, but try Googling your city and see if you can find a cheap/free clinic where she can be checked out. I believe many doctors provide services at a large discount for people without the ability to pay.
Also, if your gf is a student, her college almost certainly offers some medical care as part of her student fees. |

Do you have good credit? Maybe you can apply for a loan to pay for this. Or you can always fly down to mexico and get treatment at a lower cost. Other options...do you know anyone in Canada? |

The health SYSTEM won't let you die, you're free to pay for any services you want to receive!
If you don't want to PAY for them, well, I'd like to know what you do for a living, so you can do it FOR FREE, like you want the doctors to do, for you. AND, you get to pick up the cost of materials and supplies, as you want the doctors to do that, too.
Thyroid is cheap. You spend less in a year treating, including testing, medication, and doctor visits, than you do owning a cell phone, having cable tv, or keeping an internet connection in your home.
If you're willing to pay for THOSE, but not willing to pay for medical treatment for a thyroid disorder, you've got your priorities in the wrong place. |
