If I let my Auto insurance policy lapse, and my company cancelles it, I'm i still liable to pay more premium?
My Auto insurance policy was cancelled for non payment, and withing the time of cancellatio, I had an accident. originally, my insurance copmany wanted me to come in and reinstate the policy but as soon as they find out that a case was taken out under my name, they refuned me the reinstatement money back and a few days later, they sent me another letter requesting for payment owed before the policy was cancelled. my questions is, should I sent them another payment or not. since they cancelled my policy and refused to cover the accident cost, I don't think I should send them any more money, should I? thank you so much for your help.

Well, they won't cover the accident in any case since it happened while you were uninsured. If you were canceled for non pay, you may also now not have a license to drive, since many states will suspend a license upon getting notified that you have let your insurance lapse. I don't recommend this usually, but I think in your case you need to consult with an attorney and find out your options before you are out lots of money and required to file an SR 22.

Also, a good resource is...

they are not going to cover a loss that happened when your policy was cancelled. i am surprised that they reinstated without having a no loss form signed stating you had no losses at the time your policy was not in force. yes, you owe them the money, pay it. it is legal and they have the right to bill you for what you owe them.

They decided not to reinstate your policy because of the accident, which they are completely within their rights to do. You owe them the money for the time you were covered. Send it to them.

I'm not sure what you mean by "within the time of cancellation." Does that mean the accident happened before your insurance lapsed? You will be covered if you pay the money owed.

hell no dont give them money... they cancelled ur policy so u dont owe them a thing .... try out progressive

there could be a couple of reason why you could owe the insurance company money after a policy is cancelled. some of the reasons are the you just started a policy and you got uprated and the down payment you put didn't wasn't enough for that billing period, or that you didn't pay enough on your last bill ,or that you owe them some fee like reinstatement fee or endorsement fees, or that your check bounced and that you owe them the bounced check fee. those fees are rightfully earned by the insurance company so you do have to pay them.

whatever the case, if your accident happen before the policy cancellation date and time, then it will covered. if it happened after the cancellation date and time, then it is not.
no matter how long a period of time they give you to reinstate your policy, no coverage begins again until you pay and reinstate (reinstatement date is usually the day after payment post.)

all insurance companies have underwriting guidelines. if you don't fit into their ideal group of preferred customers, your policy might not be reinstatable or renewable or rewritable.

Yes, you're liable for any cancellation charges, AND, for the time the policy was in force after your money ran out.

If you don't send them the money, it will go to collections, eventually to court, and they'll get a judgement, and attach your wages plus interest and court costs. So they WILL get the money eventually, and a lot more, if you don't pay what you owe now.
